Club Spotlight: Power Talkers Club Toastmasters

Name: Power Talkers Club

Chartered: October 1, 1994

Since joining the Power Talkers Toastmaster’s Club about a year ago, I have increased my confidence level while speaking in front of the public and large groups. I feel I am more relaxed and comfortable while speaking and more conscious of what I am saying and how I am saying it. I don’t feel as anxious or nervous before I say a few words.

I have improved my speaking ability, such as the use of filler words, and it shows in my performance at work on the council or at special events. Toastmasters has also helped me to improve both my listening and writing skills, and I have also made new friendships along the way so the networking is a side benefit!

Some people have asked me, “Why are you doing that? You are so busy! You have enough to do! You are already a good speaker.” My response is, “No, there is always room for improvement, the Club helps me. Toastmasters is Fun! You should join!”

These days, verbal communications is becoming obsolete. People rely on their personal communication devices to do that for them. Effective speaking is a huge asset!- Alison Deeb

I had heard of Toastmasters for a long time but never thought of joining until a few years ago. Glad I did! I would get the yips (like at golf) when I had to talk in front of more than ten people in a room. The Power talkers Club is friendly and encouraging.  I love practicing my speeches at the club meetings, then taking them on the road. (My golf game is coming along too!)- Greg Lombardi

I am a professional speaker and have found Power talkers Toastmasters to be extremely valuable in keeping my skills fresh.  The meetings are fun and informative, and the structure allows everyone a chance to speak at almost every meeting.  If you want to improve your speaking skills and have fun with a great group of people, then Power talkers is for you! – Jason Sanders

I joined Power Talkers in 2004 and it has opened up many doors through enhanced communication and leadership skills.  This is effected not through classroom techniques but through practice in various forms of communication exercises: speaking, listening and evaluation skills, and mentorship within an almost family-like environment during our regular meetings.  Opportunities exist to carry these skills to higher levels of Toastmasters, working with members of other clubs for other interesting leadership challenges.- Jen Fredericks

For many years, I worked as a skilled technical writer but felt frustrated by my difficulty communicating when in meetings. Anxiety blocked my thought processes. A workshop leader at a conference gave me good advice: “Join Toastmasters!” Power Talkers was the first and only club I visited. The friendly, encouraging club members and well-organized meetings keep me coming back. Now I can express myself to groups of people and sometimes even enjoy speaking in public.- Linda Delap

I joined Toastmasters to be prepared for that big speech whenever it came. What a difference Power talkers has made in me! The Power talkers group, more than a team, has encouraged me with positive feedback and mentorship. The camaraderie within the group is amazing. When one of us does well, we all feel accomplished.  I’m a proud member of Power talkers Toastmasters. – Stacey DeAlto
