{"id":1049,"date":"2019-04-12T22:31:06","date_gmt":"2019-04-13T02:31:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tm83.org\/blog\/?p=1049"},"modified":"2019-04-12T22:31:06","modified_gmt":"2019-04-13T02:31:06","slug":"differences-between-traditional-and-pathways-dtm-achievements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tm83.org\/blog\/differences-between-traditional-and-pathways-dtm-achievements\/","title":{"rendered":"Differences Between Traditional and Pathways DTM Achievements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You decided to pursue a Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) award and would like to learn more about a traditional DTM and a Pathways DTM.<\/p>\n<p>The requirements for attaining a traditional DTM and a Pathways DTM are available on the Toastmasters International website: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toastmasters.org\/education\/distinguished-toastmaster\">https:\/\/www.toastmasters.org\/education\/distinguished-toastmaster<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few of the highlights you may be interested in exploring in order to determine which is right for you or a member of your club.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Timing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Members have until June 30, 2020 to complete the requirements for a DTM in the traditional program.<\/p>\n<p>There are no deadlines for completing a Pathways DTM.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Support for Clubs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the traditional program, a Toastmaster must complete the requirements for serving as a sponsor, mentor or coach.<\/p>\n<p>In the Pathways program, a Toastmaster is required to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Serve as a club sponsor, or conduct a Speechcraft, or Youth Leadership Program<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>AND<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Serve as a club mentor or coach<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Completing requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the traditional program, Toastmasters may work on speeches and leadership requirements in a variety of manuals at the same.<\/p>\n<p>In the Pathways program, individuals must work sequentially on completing requirements for Levels 1-5 in their paths.<\/p>\n<p><strong>High Performance Leadership (HPL)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the traditional program, a member can begin working on an HPL project at any time as a component of their Advanced Leader Silver (ALS) award.<\/p>\n<p>In the Pathways program, an HPL project, either a Level 5 requirement or an optional elective depending on the member\u2019s chosen path, can be started when the member completes Level 4.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Continue to stay informed: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/toastmasters.org\/\">Toastmasters International website <\/a><\/li>\n<li>Toastmaster magazine (print and online)<\/li>\n<li>Coming Soon: Pathways resources on the District 83 website<\/li>\n<li>Club Officer Training (next sessions take place June, July and August 2019)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Blog contributed by Su Brooks, DTM 2\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>District 83 Training Coordinator and Social Media Strategist<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Su has been a Toastmaster since July 2000 and has earned two DTM awards in the Traditional program. In Pathways, she is working on three paths: Leadership Development, Presentation Mastery, and Engaging Humor.
