You’re probably thinking, “Of course not.” But guess what, we all do that figuratively. Not once, not twice, but many times in our life.

Let me ask you this: Do you drive with your emergency break on? It’s another way to ask “are you striving to win while you have someone or something pulling you down”?

Napoleon Hill constantly reiterates this point and is the source of the aforementioned powerful examples. He believes we are the average of the 5 people we associate with or are influenced by on a daily basis.

Who are your 5 best buddies? How do they influence you? Do you choose your friends or does it happen at random? Do you let others come into your life and make an impact or do you choose who impacts your thoughts?

You might have seen a specific door in old American cowboy movies. It’s a door of a saloon. It opens both ways. You can push it and you can pull it. Anyone can go through it.

Could this door serve as an allegory for your life? Allowing anyone to come and go as they please. It should not be so, unless you decide it should be so. Think about some of the heart aches you’ve been through. People who came in to your life came in with your permissions or choice. It was you who left the door open.

I am going to share what I learned at a Jack Canfield seminar, which may help if this situation exists in your life in some way today. It may be a bad relationship, unhappy job, bitter friendships or a bitter marriage.

Every (O) Outcome in your life is a result of the the (R) responses you gave and continue to give to the events (E) in your life.

E + R = O

It’s your final response that matters.

Prioritize your life. Prioritize your friends. Decide who has the permission to influence you. And decide who can stay in your personal space and impact your thoughts.

Decide to win. Losing is a decision you make. If you decide that you will win, you will walk like a winner. Don’t let that be just a wish. Wishes never built bridges or made innovations, but decisions (Dreams followed by actions).

Toastmasters is a way I use day in and day out to achieve my winning goals of communication and confidence.
