One Level Up- Module 1: Planning for Success

Our District 83 theme for this year is “New Beginnings”. This means a new way of acting to move at a much faster pace, a new vision to take our members to new educational heights exploring our resilience, to acquire new abilities no matter what obstacles or hurdles appears on the way, and find consistent  practices to overcome the distractions trying to disrupt our advancement.

For everyone to achieve my challenge to move “one level up” in your educational and/or leadership program, we need to come to the realization that if we don’t plan the year-end outcome, we cannot arrive there.  Or as Zig Ziglar used to say, “You can’t hit a target you cannot see, and you cannot see a target you do not have”.

The goal is that every Toastmaster in District 83 starts working- right now- on a plan that will enable you to move from where you are today to your next educational level. If you already have the top educational achievement, you should start working towards what is next for you.

The training that we are putting together has a focuses on setting targets throughout the year and revisiting the Toastmasters values, mission, and vision. As a Toastmaster member, YOU have a role to play in getting to your communication and leadership goals faster.

Once you know and master the rules of the game, whether that’s achieving Competent Communicator, Competent Leadership, or your next award level. You will see how these achievements in our organizations are applicable in the job market and your life in general. If you can move one level up, there is no way you cannot move forward on your personal goals and aspirations.

Let’s be conscious that we can only get out of the Toastmasters experience what we put in. I have a book collection that looks good on the bookshelf, but until I read all these books I will not be able to talk about the content and feel I have acquired additional information that will serve me to perform better anywhere at home or in the job market.

During the time we are going to spend together, we are going to talk about what is important in our own journeys and commit to a list of activities that will contribute to getting us closer to where we want to be in the future.

As part of the training session, we are going to revisit how the clubs function and the different roles in the club executive team.  Those who attend this training as part of their “officer’s training” for the first half of the year will receive credit. Come prepared to participate and share your best practices and areas of expertise, since we can all learn from each other. Your future is the result of what you are doing now!
